Drinking water is so very important to your health. Men should drink an average of 3.7 liters per day, and women should have 2.7 liters per day!
Many of us know that water is critical for keeping our bodies functioning properly as it makes up 60% of the human body, and every cell, tissue, muscle, and system requires water to run effectively. But here are a few of the health benefits of drinking water that you might not be aware of are:
~It lubricates the joints!
Cartilage, found in joints and the disks of the spine, contains around 80 percent water. Long-term dehydration can reduce the joints’ shock-absorbing ability, leading to joint pain.
~ It boosts skin health and beauty!
With dehydration, the skin can become more vulnerable to skin disorders and premature wrinkling.
~The digestive system depends on it!
The bowels need water to work properly. Dehydration can lead to digestive problems, constipation, and an overly acidic stomach. This increases the risk of heartburn and stomach ulcers.
~It helps maintain blood pressure!
A lack of water can cause blood to become thicker, increasing blood pressure.
~It helps with weight loss!
Water may also help with weight loss, if it is consumed instead of sweetened juices and sodas. “Preloading” with water before meals can help prevent overeating by creating a sense of fullness.
~Your airway needs it!
When dehydrated, airways are restricted by the body in an effort to minimize water loss. This can make asthma and allergies worse!
While water is essential not all water is created equal! So what type of water is the healthiest for my body?
Spring water is actually the healthiest water, because it is naturally alkaline and has minerals like sodium, calcium, magnesium, and potassium without having contaminants such as lead and chlorine.
Alkaline water is also healthy water, but it is made through an ARTIFICIAL process and does not have minerals. There is some research on the health benefits of drinking alkaline water, but more research is needed.
A study performed in 2020 found mice that daily intake of alkaline water improved markers of aging in the DNA of the mice.
A study performed in 2018 found that in mice alkaline water may help reduce symptoms of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.
A study in 2021 found that alkaline water may help improve bone density in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis.
So don't forget to drink your water!
